  Ending a marriage and acting as if it never happened

  • Husband absent for long time without staying in touch
  • Not being able to have children naturally
• Stages of divorce

  1. Initation
  2. Reconciliation
  3. Completion
  4. Remarriage
• Inititation

  Husband must say to wife ' i divorce you ' three times over a period of time
• Reconciliation

  Couple should seek advice from an iman to see if a peaceful solution can be made
• Completion

  • If reconciliation fails then divorce takes place
  • If women wants to divorce then Shariah council will look into the case as she is seen as more vulnerable in the marriage
  • Men are reminded to treat women which they divorce with respect
• Remarriage

  Unmarried person is encouraged to remarry as it is considered natural and important in Islam
• Islam teaches that couples should not enter a divorce lightly as it can have consequences on their children
