Moderate type of conformity, where you have some value respect for the group. Private acceptance of the group's views. Public agreement whilst part of the group
Identification
Soldiers might conform to civilian life but can change opinions if their beliefs change
Informational Social Influence
Look to the group for guidance when situation is ambiguous, person believes the group has more information
Normative Social Influence
The need to be liked, not wanting to stand out, fear of rejection. Leads to compliance publicly, privately may be different
Normative Social Influence
Asch's study - participants conformed as they were more concerned about being liked in the group situation
Normative Social Influence may reduce when the difference between public and private behaviour can't be sure, especially outside the lab
You believe killing animals is wrong
