  Bile is a liquid made in the liver and stored in the gall bladder
• What is the function of bile

  • Bile helps to speed up the digestion of lipids but bile is not an enzyme 
  • Bile is alkaline in order to neutralise hydrochloric acid from the stomach 
  • Bile also emulsifies fat to form small droplets , which increase the surface area  
  • These 2 factors increase the rate at which fat is broken down by lipase
