Practical skills 2 Control experiments and Drawing Histogram

Cards (6)

  • Control experiment: Is a separate experiment that we compare our results to, to prove that the variable being investigated is responsible for the changes observed in the variable being measured, and not due to any other factor.
  • what is a control variable?
a variable that stays the same throughout an experiment
  • What does a control experiment do?
A control experiment helps scientists figure out if what they're testing is really causing a change, by keeping everything else the same except for what they're testing.
  • How to be able to suggest appropriate control experiments?
To suggest appropriate control experiments, identify variables that could affect the outcome and design tests that keep those variables constant while changing only one thing at a time.
  • What is histogram?
A histogram is a chart that groups numbers into intervals and shows how many times each interval occurs, using bars to represent the frequency of each group.
  • How to be able to draw a histogram using data?
    1. Organise your data into intervals or groups.
    2. Create a horizontal axis (x-axis) with intervals.
    3. Create a vertical axis (y-axis) representing the frequency or count.
    4. Draw bars above each interval with heights corresponding to the frequency of data points in that interval.
