• Temperatures >34ºC for 6 days (only time in last 60 years) and night time temperatures > 20ºC
• Highest temperature 36.4ºC measured at Heathrow and Kew gardens
• Thunderstorms in some areas
• Highest temperatures in the region (35ºC) ~12ºC warmer than the August long-term average (~23ºC) (values for Greater London)
• Rise in registered deaths during this week due to heat stress
• High pressure (anticyclone- 1026 hPa) over the UK and continental Europe
• South-east England in tropical maritime hot and humid airmass
• Decaying cold front further north
• Temperatures exceeding 34°C recorded in7 out of the last 10 years compared to 7times between 1961 to 2010
