  • the torah and the talmud guide jewish environmental ethics, and the torah teaches that that God is the creator of all things meaning that jewish people have been chosen espicially to protect, restore and care for the environment as per the covenant (saving for later generations/ god providing descendants)
  • K'VOD HASHEM: the dignity due to god, meaning god is more important than people meaning we all but jews in particular must protect all his creation
  • TEACHING 1: L'OVULAH UL'SHOMRAH: to serve and protect, the reminds jews that while humans are never especially called 'good', they are considered part of an 'interconnected whole'.
  • TEACHING 3: BAL TASHCHIT: do not destroy, this teaching encourages us to be careful about how much waste we produce and how we dispose of it.
  • TEACHING 2: TIKKUN OLMUM: repairing the world, this teaching emphasises that it is our responsibility to fix what has gone wrong with the earth.
  • LOVULAH UL'SHOMRAH SCRIPTURE: god put him in the garden of eden to till it and keep it
  • TIKKUN OLAM SCRIPTURE: "tend well to the earth for there will be no one to make it right after you". (talmud)
    • jews are therefore given the planet as a loan from god, and should work to preserve it.
  • BAL TASHKHIT SCRIPTURE: "do not go around destroying" (deuteronomy).
  • JEWISH LAWS OF THE ENVIRONMENT: laws which have been passed by the rabbis over time to ensure that jewish teachings on the environment are followed.
