Electronegativity and bond polarity

Cards (5)

  • The three most electronegative elements are Fluorine, Oxygen and Nitrogen
  • Electronegativity generally increases from left to right along the period.
  • Electronegatively tends to decrease moving down a group.
  • The more electronegative an atom is the closer the electrons are to it in bonds it forms and the more likely it is to form anions.
  • When two atoms with different electronegativities bond. The electron density around one atom will be greater creating a negative dipole.
