Crime : AO3 Left Realism

Cards (5)

  • +Realises that tackling crime means tackling inequalities.
  • +Recognises that most victims of crime are poor and working class.
  • +Recognises the importance of the community in reducing and preventing crime.
  • -Box: White-collar crime cannot be understood in terms of this approach, especially not corporate crime. It focuses too much on street crime and ignores the fact the police can be selective in the areas they police.
  • -Hughes: it fails to explain the causes of street crime. Young et al spend their time focusing on asking people if they are victims of street crime, they fail to spend time asking offenders why they actually committed it in the first place.
