Terms of the Treaty of Versailles imposed on Germany
1. The Rhineland was demilitarised
2. The German army was not allowed to go there
3. Germany lost the Saar coalfields as they were given to France for 15 years
4. Alsace-Lorraine was returned to France
5. Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria
6. Land in eastern Germany was given to Poland. This was known as the Polish Corridor and meant German territory was split
7. Danzig made a free city under League of Nations control
8. All Germany's colonies were taken and given to France and Britain
9. The German army was restricted to 100,000 men
10. The German navy was restricted to six battleships and no submarines
11. Germany was not allowed to have an air force
12. 231: "War Guilt Clause". Germany was responsible for starting the war and for causing all the loss and damage during the war
13. Germany would have to pay reparations for damages caused during the war. This was set at £6.6 billion
