  • Digestion
Breaking down large molecules Into smaller soluble molecules
  • Protein digestion begins in the stomach. It is broken down by Protease or pepsin into amino acids
  • Starch digestion begins in the mouth. It is broken down by amalayse into maltose and then into glucose.
  • Lipid digestion begins in the Small intestine. It is broken down by lipase into fatty acids and glycerol.
  • Bile is produced by the liver. It emmulsifies fat, increasing the surface area to allow for faster digestion as more contact is made between the lipids and lipase.
  • Bile neutralises acid from the stomach, which maintains optimum PH for the Small Intestine, allowing the enzymes to work best.
