  • Sources of Authority
    • The Qur'an is Allah's law to guide human beings in the right way to live
    • It is the direct and perfect word of Allah and there are no mistakes in it
    • It has always existed and is written in Arabic, on a tablet of stone in heaven
    • Other sources of authority to help Muslims are Imams, Scholars, Tradition, Shari'ah law, Hadith, Sunnah
  • Guidance For Life
    • The Qur'an teaches how to worship, treat other people and live good lives
    • It contains advice on showing kindness to parents
    • It teaches them to keep promises, to be honest, to not gossip, to not commit adultery and to always help the poor
  • Studying the Qur'an
    • Hadiz is a person who learns the Qur'an by heart in Arabic, reciting it daily
    • The Qur'an must be learned in its original language (Arabic), because its words must never be altered as they are the words of Allah
    • Reciting the Qur'an in Arabic is a powerful experience
    • The words have power and bring blessings and spiritual awareness
  • Respect The Qur'an
    • Muslims will try to learn and recite it from memory
    • Nothing has been changed, therefore it needs to be studied in Arabic
    • It is wrapped in cloth to protect it
    • It is placed on the highest shelf to show its superiority to other books
    • Muslims must wash thoroughly before touching it
    • A Muslim must be in the right frame of mind before reading it (niyyah)
    • No food or drink is to be consumed whilst reading the Qur'an
    • No speaking or unnecessary noise is to be made whilst it is being read
    • A woman is not permitted to read the Qur'an whilst she is on her period
