10 - Hadith and Sunnah

• Sunnah - The actions of the prophet Muhammad
• Hadith -

  • Sometimes Muslims need to understand things not found in the Qur'an
  • They turn to words (hadith) and actions (sunnah) of Muhammad
  • Hadith are saying of Muhammad on topics not found in the Qur'an
  • Muslims respect the words of Muhammad as he was a man of wisdom
  • The hadith includes an account of Muhammad's last sermon where he instructed his followers to be obedient to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah
• Sunnah -

  • The Sunnah is the practices and traditions of Muhammad
  • It is the second most important source of authority after the Qur'an
  • Muhammad's actions guide Muslims today and they imitate they way he lived
  • The Sunnah teaches the perfect path or model of how Muslims should live
• Shariah Law -

  • Shariah means straight path
  • By following Shariah Law, Muslims are obeying the will of Allah
  • Shariah Law is the moral and religious rules which puts into practice the teaching of the Qur'an, Sunnah and Hadith
  • It deals with prayer, food, clothing, crime, money, sex and relationships
