12 - Submission to Allah

• Jihad - The struggle to do what is right according to Allah. The two types of jihad are the greater jihad and lesser jihad
• Submission -

  • The word Islam means 'submission' in Arabic
  • Allah is the creator of all things so everyone should live in submission to him
  • Even nature submits to the natural laws he has put into place
  • Submission means following the Five Pillars and the rules of Shariah law
• The Greater Jihad -

  • This is the personal struggle to submit to Allah's will
  • It is to perform the Five Pillars with devotion
  • It is to practice the path set out by the Prophet Muhammad in the Sunnah
  • It includes seeking fairness and justice for all, to rise above greed and selfishness
• Examples of Greater Jihad -

  • Control desires - to live a life that is pleasing to Allah, so that on Judgement day they will be worth and enter Paradise
  • Battle against laziness - to make the effort to be a better person including getting up before dawn to pray and only eating food that is halal
  • Doing what is right - to remove evil and make the world a better place
  • Respect the beliefs of others - to be tolerant, respectful and live in peace and harmony
