• sound waves are caused by vibrating objects. these vibrations are passed through the surroundings medium in a series of rarefactions and compressions
• when sounds enters your ear drum it causes it to vibrate. these are passed on to tiny bones which are called ossicles through the canals to the cochlea. this then turns the vibrations into electrical signals which are sent to the brain and allow you to sense the sound
