  • problems with freud:
    Ignores the biological/genetic factors that influence and contribute to mental health problems and crime, u realisable unscientific so explanation of criminality is flawed, can't measure unconscious mind to discover inner conflict and motivations, too subjective, small scale case studies
  • who is John Bowlby:
    early childhood experience, had a nanny, went to boarding school. maternal attachment = change in hospital rules, childhood separated from parents (anxious, attachment styes)
  • John Bowlby- maternal deprivation:
    found a link between maternal deprivation and deviant/anti social behaviour, without a mother children don't develop correctly resulting in long term cognitive social and emotional difficulties, affection less psychopathy. Evidence= studied 44 thieves, 39% separated from their mother for longer than 6 month before the age of 5
  • bowlby problems:
    an over focus on mothers as the sole cause of criminal behaviour, some children kept in isolation with viral diseases didn't suffer from maternal deprivation, material deprivation can have a stronger correlation to crime then maternal
  • psychoanalysis theories + policy ruducing crime:
    psychoanalysis therapy= hypnoisis and free association often 5x a week often for serval years, this would help the super ego to be fixed reshaping thinking patterns and overcoming trauma
  • family policies:
    gov incentives to encourage preferred parenting styles and commitment to children and family structure (e.g. proposed tax breaks for married couples), parenting classes and support for mothers
  • phsychodynmamic theory and policy- reduce crime,

    psychoanalysis therapy- hypnosis often 5x a week for several years. help the super ego to be fixed reshaping thinking patterns + overcoming trauma often a neglect of a parent
