• All cells in the body need energy in the form of glucose from the food we eat.
• As the body needs a continuous supply of glucose and we are not constantly eating the body employs a system of negative feedback control.
• This means there is always glucose available in the bloodstream.
Adrenaline
• In order for this to happen the adrenal gland secrete the hormone
adrenaline.
• This hormone overrides the negative feedback control that normally takes place.
• It does this by:
Stimulating glucagon secretion
Inhibiting the secretion of insulin
• Once the event is over the adrenaline level is reduced back to a minimum and blood glucose levels are returned to normal through negative feedback control.
