Composition of committees

Cards (4)

  • There are many ways to describe the composition of committees
  • Composition of committees: Members of all parties
Committees are made up of members from all parties. This is so that no one party has more control over the other and the hope is that it is more reflective of the composition of the Scottish Parliament as a whole.
  • Composition of committees: Shared leadership
Leadership is shared between parties. This is to prevent the committees from becoming too political in favour of the one party and so that each committee is represented by a range of views and opinions.
  • Composition of committees: Not members of govt
The members of the committees will not be members of the government. As one of the main roles of the committees in the Scottish Parliament is to scrutinise the work of the Scottish Government it will not have members of the government on the committee.
