4 - Forgiveness

• Christianity Forgiveness -

  • God forgives them for theirs in so they too should forgive other
  • Jesus asked God to forgive his executioners when he was on the cross - 'Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing'
  • The Lord's Prayer asks 'Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us'
  • Jesus said 77 times was the number of times we should forgive (we should forgive endlessly)
• Parable of the Lost Son

  Jesus taught Christians to forgive others in the Parable of the lost Son

  • The son who took money from his father, wasted it
  • He returned to work for his father
  • The father was waiting for him and forgave him
• Islam Forgiveness -

  • The Qur'an teaches even though out own actions cause a lot of suffering, Allah ignores and forgives a lot of our faults
  • It also teaches that if we forgive others, Allah will forgive us. In the same way as Allah shows forgiveness, we should show mercy and forgiveness to others
  • If we forgive others then we will be rewarded with Paradise. On the Day of Judgement all our faults will be revealed so it's important to forgive others
  • Muhammad is the example to follow. He forgave those who mistreated him when he first taught Islam
• Forgiveness During Hajj

  One of the most important days in a Muslim's life is when they stand at Mount Arafat during Hajj asking God for forgiveness
