    A party has more than the majority of MSPs in Parliament, they have more than 65 MSPs. They can run as the government without the help of any other party.
  • Minority government
    A party has less than the majority of MSPs in Parliament, they have less than 65 MSPs. They make deals with other parties to pass laws on a vote by vote basis.
  • Coalition government
    Two parties make a formal agreement to join together. They compromise on decisions.
  • Majority government
    • The last majority government was an SNP majority in 2011-2016

    • The current government is an SNP minority as they had 64 MSPs
