independent groups design

Cards (3)

  • Independent group design is where there are two separate set conditions of two groups and they experience either an experimental condition or the control conditions, and after that a mean would be calculated of both groups and then the results would be compared against each other.
  • independent groups design Strengths:
It reduces order effects and demand characteristics, as there are no desired characteristics that any of the participants need to complete the investigation. Also some of the test materials are able to be used again showing the experiment is possibly replicable.
  • independent groups design Limitations
One limitation is that it is highly time consuming as you need more participants and as well as that it is extremely time consuming as you have to pick a group out and also because you have to separate them into the  different groups one for the experimental condition and another for the control condition. The experiment is also controlled by randomisation.
