  • field experiment are carried out in a natural environment while the independent variable is manipulated. The researcher goes to the participants in a regular environment, one that the participants are in daily.
  • field experiment Strengths:
They have a higher chance of realism as the environment is natural therefore behaviour is less likely to be affected and can easily represent a regular lifestyle, decreasing generalisability.
Results are more valid and authentic.
  • field experiments Limitations:
Less control over the confounding and extraneous variables, which can cause an effect between the dependent and independent variable leading to it being more difficult to establish and precise replication is not possible. Ethical issues as the participants do not know that they are being studied therefore this can be seen as an invasion of privacy.
