  standard deviation Single value that tells us how far the scores deviate away from the mean. Higher deviation, higher levels of dispersion, results are less consistent or that there is values that distort the mean. Lower deviation, lower levels of dispersion, results are more consistent.

  Strengths:

  Very precise measurement compared to the range.

  Weaknesses:

  Can easily be distorted by a single value like the mean.

   range Minus highest value from lowest and add one.

  Strengths:

  Easy to calculate.

  Weaknesses:

  Only takes into account the two most extreme values. Not representative as a whole.
