correlations

Cards (3)

  • Correlations: Correlations are the relationship between 2 co variables. It does not look at the cause and effect relationships. They can be plotted on scattergrams. A positive correlation is where both of the co variables increase. A negative correlation is where one co variable increases and the other decreases. A negative correlation is where there is no relationship between the co variables.
  • Correlations Strengths:
It assesses the strength and direction of the correlation. Provides precise and quantifiable measurements. Suggests ideas for the future. They are quick and economical to carry out, as there is no need for a controlled environment or to manipulate variables. Secondary data can be collected therefore less time consuming than others.
  • Correlations Weaknesses:
Lack of experimental manipulation therefore can only tell how they are related but not why they are related.Do not demonstrate cause and effect relationships, therefore unable to know which variables cause each other and why. It is possible that there are intervening variables as there is lack of control and manipulation.  They can be misused and be presented i9n a casual way by the media particularly.
