Research regarding the CI has led to the introduction of useful variations that can be used in practice.
Evidence + Elaboration
For example, Holliday (2003) developed the modified cognitive interview (MCI), designed for specific types of witnesses (e.g. children, individuals with learning disabilities) wherein the "change in perspective" element was removed as this element may be difficult for children to understand, while the other elements remained.
The MCI allows police to gain accurate insight without causing the witness distress.
Link
Variations of the CI utilize its elements to improve the accuracy of recall for different types of eyewitnesses, suggesting Gieselman’s study is high in external validity and therefore gains scientific credibility.
