The July Days

• the july days was a spontaneous uprising
• the july days was fueled by

  • a lack of food
  • bolshevik propaganda which condemned the provisional government
  • the june offensive
• during the july days, neither the soviet or the Bolsheviks were prepared to take command of the uprising

  without leadership, the July uprising failed
• the bolsheviks were held responsible for the uprising,

  leading to their leaders being arrested, driven into exile and targeted by government propaganda

  this defeated the bolshevik movement
• The result of the July Days caused Lenin to escape to finland

  this made him known as a traitor to the russian people
• The bolsheviks did not start the failed July Days uprising, only joined in after Lenin decided that there was potential for a revolution
• in order for the Bolsheviks to recover from the July Days, the Provisional Government would have to make a big mistake

  this was done through the Kornilov Affair in which Kerensky turned to the Bolshevik Red Guard
