Aside from serial dilutions, what is another way you can make solutions of different concentrations?
by finding the scale factor
How can you make sucrose solutions of any concentration BY FINDING THE SCALE FACTOR?
EG if you want to make 15cm3 of a 0.4M sucrose solution..
Start with a solution of a known conc eg 1M
Find scale factor by dividing conc of this solution by the conc of the solution that you want to make (1/0.4=2.5)
so the solution you want to make is 2.5 times weaker than the one you have. to make the solution 2.5x weaker, use 2.5 times less of it (15/2.5=6) Transfer this amount to a clean test tube
TOP UP the test tube with DISTILLED WATER to get the VOLUME you want to make. ie 15-6=9cm3 of distilled water
