  • There are 2 types of injuries; Minor Injuries and Major Injuries
  • Muscle Cramps are the spasm or sudden tightening of a muscle
  • Sprain is the type of injury to the ligament surrounding a joint
  • Strain is the injury resulting from damaging a tendon
  • Minor Treatments include; Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation
  • Rest is the type of treatment where you avoid from using the affected area
  • Ice is the treatment to reduce swelling
  • Compression is the type of treatment applying light pressure through the use of plastic bandage
  • Elevate is the type of treatment that involves raising the injured part above heart level
  • Major Injuries include; Fractures, Dislocations, Tendonitis, and Concussion
  • Fractures are major injury that is any break in the bone
  • Dislocation is the injury where a bone is forced from its normal Position in a joint
  • Concussion is the injury where result from the blow from the head can result to loss of consciousness and damage to the brain
  • Major Injuries Treatment includes bandaging
  • Bandaging is the process of covering the wound or an injured part with the help of any gauze
  • Rules of bandaging
    • select bandage with proper size
    • elbow, ankle, and knees require 3 inches
    • Wrist and foot requires 2 inches of bandage
    • Lower leg, shoulder and head needs 4 inches of bandage
  • When applying the bandage, the patient must be in comfortable position causing the least pain
  • Do not bandage the part too Tightly or too Loosely
  • Different types of bandages includes
    1. Triangular - for arms and head
    2. Roller Bandages - Rolled Circular Bandages
    3. T Bandages - a bandage shaped like a letter T used abopve the waist to hold the dressing in place
  • Sprain = Ligaments in a Joint : Strain = Tendons
  • The Purpose of T bandage is to Hold the Dressing in place
  • Bandaging uses Gauze and sometimes Cloth Material as a substitute
  • Avoid using cold compresses for more than 20 minutes at a time.
