Reasons why the Weimar republic was so unpopular by
1930
German people blamed
Weimar
politicians for the great depression caused by the
Wall Street crash
of 1929
German people Blamed
Weimar
for an increase in
unemployment
in the 1930s
German people remembered the problems caused by
hyperinflation
in
the
1920's and how poor the
Weimar
government dealt with this
Weimar government was blamed for
Germany
losing the war as many soldiers believed they could have continued fighting to win the war
Weimar called 'November Criminals' as they signed peace armistice in
1918
Weimar was also blamed for signing the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 which many
Germans
hated
Weimar was weak due to Proportional Representation as this led to no overall majority in the Reichstag and therefore, laws could not be passed
Weimar could not prevent outbreaks of violence such as Spartacist rising and Munich Putsch and this made them look weak
Weimar could not deal with high levels of unemployment and could not decide on a solution to the problem
