  • Reasons why the Nazis/Hitler's rose to power 1929-33
    • The Nazis held large meetings which help spread their message which ultimately led to more votes
    • The Nazi used propaganda to make their party appealing. This brainwashed the German people into believing in Nazi ideology which led to more votes
    • Hitler and the Nazis used fear, intimidation and violence on those who were against them. They attacked the meetings of opposition parties during election campaigns which aided their rise to power
    • The Nazis used the SA to impress people during their parades. The German people liked the strong sense this gave them, which led to more votes from the German people
    • Hitler's great personality and oratory skills (speech making skills) led to support from the people. This was because his speeches were spell bounding which led to more support and votes
    • Hitler had universal appeal as he promised all sections of society something. For example, in his 25 point programme he appealed to the elderly as he said he would increase pensions
    • Hitler promised the German people jobs. This led to more votes as people were tired of high unemployment and believed in Hitler's promise of employment
    • Weakness of the Weimar (including Proportional Representation) helped the Nazis come to power as the German public had no faith in them
    • Hitler also came to power as he promised to get rid of the Treaty of Versailles. The German people hated the treaty and voted for Hitler as they believed he would be true to his promise
    • The Nazis also came to power as the Weimar Republic used proportional representation. This allowed extremist political parties like the Nazis to get into parliament, even if they wished to destroy democracy
