    • Why are noble gases chemically inert?
      • Noble gases have stable electronic configurations.
      • Outer electron shells are full.
      • Lack of tendency to gain, lose, or share electrons.
      • Do not form chemical bonds easily.
      • Low electronegativity due to full outer shells.
    • The inert atmosphere from the noble gases is used in filament lamps as they are non-flammable which prevents the lamp from burning. Helium is less dense than air, it can be used to make balloons float. It is also non-flammable.
      • Atomic size increases down the group.
      • Boiling and melting points generally increase down the group.
      • Density increases down the group.
      • Solubility generally decreases down the group.
