Ways Scots kept their traditions going in their new country

• Scots gave new settlements/towns Scottish names eg Hamilton, Glendale
• Scots also settled in groups together and helped other Scots immigrants to settle
• Scots built churches and continued to worship in their traditional ways eg Presbyterian Churches in Australia
• Scots continued to place emphasis on education. They built schools and founded universities
• Scots continued to speak Gaelic and also taught Gaelic to their children to continue the tradition
• Scots also organised Burns Suppers and ate traditional foods (e.g. haggis)
• Many Scots played the bagpipes/sang Scottish songs/taught Highland dancing/organised ceilidhs
• Scots celebrated Tartan Day (Australia)/wore tartan/created new local tartans
• Some groups of Scots established Highland Games in their place of settlement
