    • Heritage retained Scots martial traditions eg Canadian Scots regiments in WW1
    • Henry Niccol from Scotland set up a ship yard in Auckland. Between 1843 and 1887 180 ships were built there
    • James Busby, a prominent Scot in New Zealand, was responsible for concluding the Treaty of Waitangi which recognised Maori ownership of their lands and other properties, whereby Maori chiefs accepted
    • A Scot George Stephen was also at the fore front of the Creation of Canadian Pacific Railroad which was a benefit to Canada
    • Scots influenced education - University of Toronto was founded by a Scot James Strachan and the Scots introduced more practical subjects such as engineering
