Flood Risk

Cards (4)

  • Heavy prolonged rainfall
    • Saturates the land increasing flood risk
  • Geology
    • Impermeable rocks increase surface run off so water reaches the river channel more quickly increasing the risk of flooding
  • Relief
    • Steep hills allow more surface run off as water does not have time to infiltrate rocks
  • Land use
    • Urbanisation increases the amount of impermeable rock
    • Deforestation means that interception is lost which means water can reach the river faster
