  • The magnitude of an earthquake has long been measured by the richter scale
  • Mitigation policies such as the land use and buildings of an area could impact the Earthquake
  • Another mitigation strategy is education. Earthquake print areas can run earthquake drills to make sure people are familiar with the emergency procedures.
  • Land use zoning can be used to prevent building on low-lying coast to avoid tsunami damages.
  • Aseismic buildings that have deep foundation and use cross bracing and counterweights can build to resist earthquake damages.
  • Protection in HIC's countries
    • HIC is often invested in earthquake building using cross bracing, automatic window shutters etc
    • HIC s often have warning systems and evacuation plans. In place, governments can stockpile supplies like water and food. And they also have the resources to teach people about evacuation.
  • Protection in low-income countries.
    • LIC's often used cheaper ways to protect buildings such as lighter roof material
