- test for sugars is benedicts solution
- prepare water bath to 75 dregrees
- if sample contains sugar liquid will go from blue to green yellow or red
- to test for starch use iodine solution
- if starch is present liquid will go from orange to blue or blue black
- test for protein is biuret solution
- if protein is present liquid will go from blue to purple
- test for lipids is sudan 3 solution
- if lipid is present it will separate into 2 layers the top being red
