Microscopy

• Magnification = image size x real size
• Electron microscopes have a much higher magnification than light microscopes. They also have a higher resolution.
• Preparing a slide to view onion cells (practical)

  1. Add drop of water in middle of a clean slide
  2. Cut up onion and separate it into layers. Use tweezers to peel off some epidermal tissue from bottom of one of the layers
  3. Use tweezers to place said tissue into water on slide
  4. Add a drop of iodine solution
  5. Place a cover slip on top - carefully tilt and lower to avoid air bubbles
