Children used to be economic assets to their parents however due to changing laws they have become economic liabilities
Reasons for children becoming economic liabilities:
laws (compulsory education etc)
changing norms (rising child centredness)
cost of raising children have increased in real terms
The cost of bringing up a child has risen by 20% since the 1980's
