    • It was the start of the Civil Rights movement : African Americans obtained jobs in arms factories
  • In 1942, the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper launched the "Double Victory campaign". African Americans were encouraged to fight Nazism and enlist in the armed forces and fight segregation at home.
  • The FBI investigated foreign nationals under the Alien Enemy Act (based on suspicions) they would invest. It was based on no factual proofs.
  • In February 1942, FDR signed an order authorizing the removal of individuals from the "exclusion zones" -> paranoid ideas.
  • What meant the removal of individuals from the exclusion zones ?
    Both immigrants and American citizens were detained, placed in internment camps, lost their homes and jobs (it was only based on ethnicity)
  • There was around 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-descended individuals ; 15,000 Italians / Americans ; 10,000 Germans / Americans in the internment camps.
