• Communist Koreans in the north launched an attack on Seoul in June 1950
• In July, the United Nations mobilized troops from 20 countries to counter the communist offensive
• General Douglas MacArthur asked Truman to use nuclear bombs agains North Koreans and Chinese military positions. Truman refused.
• Eisenhower was elected president in
