  As jones anticipated, there have been changes in police accountability mechanisms. Since he wrote his chapter, two important new organisations have been established:

  • Police crime commissioners (PCC's)
  • The Independent Office For Police Conduct (IOPC)
• Deaths following police conduct:

  Report published by IOPC on the number of deaths following police conduct - reliable because published by the IOPC so no police bias

  • 2022/23, 23 people died in police custody
  • Deaths have decreased
