Plant adaptations

Cards (4)

  • Some trees like acacia trees have very long roots to access water underground
  • Ephemeral flowers have seeds that only germinate after heavy rain and favorable conditions. They can complete their life cycles in a month
  • Xerophytes and succulents like cacti store water in their tissues. They also have very thick and waxy skin that prevents excess water loss
  • Lichens don’t need soil to grow but instead live on rocks with high temperatures and survive by secreting acids to break down the rocks and get nutrients
