  • November 22, 1963 : JFK assassinated in Dallas and vice president Lyndon B. Johnson sworn in.
  • Johnson was older, less charismatic, less popular but knew very well how Washington D.C. worked.
  • LBJ program was named “The great Society, focused on fighting poverty, and inequalities in the U.S.
  • July 1964 : the civil Rights Act signed into law thanks to Johnson’s help pressuring members in Congress.
  • 1964 presidential elections : Johnson landslide victory (61% of the popular vote, and 486 electoral votes to 52)
