• Osmosis practical

  1. Cut potato into even pieces
  2. Measure mass of each piece
  3. Measure 10cm^3 of distilled water and add to first boiling tube and label
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with other concentrations
  5. Add one potato piece into each boiling tube
  6. Leave for some time
  7. Remove potato from cyclinder and lightly blot on paper towel
  8. Measure mas of each potato
  9. Calculate percentage change
  10. Plot graph with mass against concentration of sugar solution
• Sources of error in osmosis practical:

  • Potato pieces may have different surface areas
  • Different parts of potato have different water potentials
• Risks for osmosis practical:

  • Use knife carefully
