tybalt

• tybalt represents the hostility between the 2 houses
• tybalts first words are to benvolio who is trying to stop a fight between the families servants
• tybalt is introduced as a villian who hates peace however in act 3 scene 1 he is presented as polite - "gentlemen, good e'en" and he initially avoids fighting mercutio - "what wouldst thou have with me"
• mercutio clearly dislikes tybalt
• in act 2 scene 4 mercutio mocks tybalts skill as a swordsman "he fights as you sing pricksongs"
• the nurse and juliet speak fondly of tybalt - " dearest cousin"
