abiotic factors and communities

Cards (9)

  • Light intensity — Needed for optimum growth in plants.
Eg. cactus — brighter sunlight , orchids — darker and dimmer
  • Temperature — Optimum enzyme activity.
  • Moisture levels — Overwatering can cause the roots to rot and die and they can’t respire.
  • Soil and water pH — Organisms have a specific pH where they can function properly. (Acidic & alkaline)
  • Soil mineral content — Magnesium promotes root growth and yield productivity
  • Wind intensity — Plants prefer sheltered locations as the strength of the wind can damage them.
  • Co2 levels — High levels help plants grow but suffocate animals
  • Pollutants — Sulfur dioxide from burning of coal
  • Clean water:
    Stone fly nymphs
    Mayfly larva
    Some pollution:
    Freshwater shrimp
    Caddis fly larva
    Moderate:
    Bloodworms
    Waterlouse
    High:
    Sludgeworms
    Maggots
