Western Front (1939-1940)

• On April 9, 1940, the German army invaded Denmark and Norway.
• Denmark surrendered after only a few hours but the Norway resistance took the Germans longer to overcome.
• The next invasions of Germany were in Belgium, Netherlands, and France in 1940.
• On June 14, 1940, Paris surrendered to Germany.
• The Battle of Britain started on August 8, 1940,
• the German air force began to attack the British air force base. They were bombing on targeting different British industrial centres. But the Germans lost the Battle of Britain.
• Italy entered the Second World War on the side of Germany.
