USA Policy of Containment

  • Marked the start of US Containment Policy
  • Aimed at providing economic and military aid to Greece and Turkey
• Marshall Plan June 1947


  • USA's commitment to give economic aid to reconstruct Europe and its economies, regardless of whether it was communist or capitalist

  
  

  Benefits :

  • Reduce the threat of communism as communism was more appealing to poor and desperate people
  • When European countries recover, they will be able to trade and buy American products
  • Get to look like heroes, more allies
  • Pressure USSR as the communist countries were offered, but disallowed from taking up Marshall plan
• Containment in the Cold War context means to stop the spread of Communism to other countries outside of Eastern Europe.
