Engagement patterns and social groups

• Social group: people who interact with one another, share similar characteristics and have a sense of unity

• barrier to participation: An obstacle that prevents a group within society from participating in sport or physical activity
• socio-economic group: A groups place within society; depends on a number of factors, including occupation, education, income, and where they live
• disposible income: income available to be spent or saved as you want
• post-school dropout: the reduction in participation levels in young adults after they leave full time education
• role model: a person looked up to by others as an example to be copied
• disability: a physical or mental condition that limits a person's ability to function in everyday life
• integration: involving the full participation of all people in community of life, but usually referring to people with a disability
• adapted sports: competitive sports for individuals with disabilities
• discrimination: the unjust or prejudical treatment of different groups of people
• attitude: an opinion about something that tends to make people respond in a certain way
