  • intro
based - Freud's assumptions that B - caused by early childhood experiences, Unconscious Mind and Tripartite Personality
    F - SZ symptoms - result of 2 main processes - fixation + regression
  • FIXATION - SZ caused > ind - becoming fixated in early childhood , during oral stage
    > child experiences frustration / trauma @ early age (e.g. due to harsh treatment)
    > as a result of fixation > as adult - use defence mechanisms to cope with any excess stress / anxiety > this use of defence mechanisms > SZ symptoms
  • REGRESSION - used by SZ
    > faced with anxiety/stress in later life > use DM to regress back to stage when fixation occurred (oral)
    > Pre-ego stage - ID = free > no sense of reality
    > ego = weak / not present to control unacceptable urges of ID
    >SZ - loses touch with reality as they fail t recognise / distinguish between what's real + not
  • REGRESSION - symptoms
    > hallucinations / delusions = reflection of unchecked b's of ID > lead to infantile / childlike B (delusions of grandeur) due to ID = free reign
    > hallucinations = reflection of ego (mediator) trying to re-establish ego-control > by over using defence mechanisms
