Threats to Tsarist regime

• Liberals

  • fighting for liberal democracy
  • wanted Russia to follow British or French democratic model
• nationalists

  • right-wing groups believed ethnic Russians should dominate a strong Russian empire
• conservatives

  • right side - against social change they supported strict hierarchy of Russian society
• socialists

  • left side - socialist revolutionaries
  • they wanted to redistribute wealth and by 1917 they had significant support from peasants
• social democrats

  • similar to SR’s and they believed in ideas from Karl Marx
  • believed history being driven by class struggle
  • eventually the workers would succeed in a revolution
• bolsheviks

  • under Lenin they are a left wing group, the most radical
  • believed you should push for a revolution
  • not democratic, but controlled by their central committee, they did not believe in collaboration with democratic parties
